STIMULUS PRESENTATION
Fear in companies is still a taboo subject today. Hardly anyone calls it by its name; people prefer to talk about stress or pressure. Fear is seen as negative – as a weakness and a performance killer.
In companies, 42% of all managers suffer from anxiety. Yet fears are trivialised, denied and suppressed. They lose an enormous amount of energy, often with devastating consequences for their health – not to mention their performance.
Fear makes you stupid. Because the brain activates a survival programme that makes intellectual, reflective thinking impossible.
Fear is a lie. Because it confuses the unknown, the not-yet-occurred with the worst possible – the worst case as an endless loop in the cinema in the head.
But fear is also an important guide and valuable mentor.
Because fears put themselves in front of what is important. They show us the way, just like a good mentor.
As humans, we are born with only two fears: the fear to fall and the fear of loud noises. All other fears are acquired – and the good news is: we can regain control over them.
Only those who use fear – the opportunity inherent in fear – can dissolve fears, become free and a source of inspiration for others. He can unmask fears, expose them and protect himself against fear attacks – like a bullet-proof vest.
This is what this presentation stands for. It is a plea for a new way of dealing with fear and the enormous opportunities that can arise from it.
