Wildflower meadows line the edge of the village, and there are always magnificent sweeping views.

In Bergün, the train is an integral part of the vacation experience. The famous UNESCO Albula-Bernina line of the fiery red Rhaetian Railway runs right through the picturesque Engadine-style village. And with the free rail pass from the Reka vacation village, you can 'experience' the whole canton.

Flags everywhere. It's 1st of August, the National Day in Switzerland.

The people of Graubünden have a knack for beauty.

Idyllic alleyways lead through the Heidi village of Latsch.

Everywhere we walk through lush vegetation.

Again and again the clouds break and offer beautiful views of Bergün.

Wildflower meadows line the outskirts of the village and allow for wonderful far-reaching views time and again.

Typical for the region is the population of stone pine trees.

Smilla can't get enough of the little zipline behind the Kurhaus in Bergün.

Wildflowers, stone pines, mountains - what more could the eye desire.

It was a pioneering achievement to build the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway into the wild mountain landscape. The hike from Preda to Bergün is not only scenic, but also packed with exciting current and historical information.

With all the wonderful views - there's also something for the close-up gazers.

Across meadows, through forests, over streams and rocky terrain. The easy 2 1/2-hour hike is very varied.

Many houses in the village of Bergün are decorated in the Engadine style from the 16th to 18th centuries and facade paintings - called sgraffito.

Bergün is one of the 30 most beautiful villages in Switzerland. And rightly so, we think.

For us city dwellers, hiking and being in the wild nature of Graubünden is a great pleasure.
