In August 1829, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy visited Fingal's Cave. Inspired by his visit, he composed a concert overture afterwards.

We marvel at the ruined Buchanan Castle, which has been largely reclaimed by nature.

The roof of Buchanan Castle was removed in 1954 and since then the property has fallen into disrepair, but its wonderfully spooky charm remains.
